It’s All About Perspective

You don’t have the power to make life fair, but you do have the power to make life joyful. Pain in your life is inevitable, but experiencing misery is optional.

Understand the power in your words. Avoid using your word to speak against yourself, or to speak ill or gossip about others. Keep in mind that the assumptions that you choose to make can make a significant difference in your life. If you can learn to not make assumptions and to not take anything that another person says against you personal, you will become much more content and experience far less stress, frustration and anger, all of which have no benefit to you. If you can look into your own heart, and you find nothing wrong there, regardless of what others may think or say against you, what is there to be upset or angry about? Remember that another person’s opinion of you, regardless of who they are, is not more important than the opinion that you have of yourself.

Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are in our lives; much of what many of us consistently take for granted. One of my favorite Persian proverbs is-I wept because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet, I then bowed my head in shame. Sometimes, you simply need to change your perspective in order to gain better understanding.

True learning is not about facts, but about conscious appreciation of what we already have, and the experience of living. It’s all about perspective. Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different. People are not disturbed by things, but by the view they take of things. The smallest change in perspective can transform a life. When you realize that by changing your perspective, big things can be seen as little things, it becomes much harder for you to worry about anything.
